Prime Minister’s Call for Enhanced Tourism Development
On 13 June 2024, Thailand’s Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Srettha Thavisin, urged governors of 55 second-tier tourist provinces and Thai tourism authorities to enhance infrastructure and tourism offerings. This initiative aligns with the government’s “Ignite Thailand” vision, aiming to position Thailand as a prominent Tourism Hub. The strategic meeting included provincial governors, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) executives, and various private sector representatives.
Strategic Initiatives for Boosting Tourism
Prime Minister Srettha outlined strategies to elevate the Thai economy by promoting travel linkage between established and second-tier tourist destinations. This approach intends to distribute tourism benefits nationwide. Key government officials like Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit joined the discussion, highlighting the importance of developing attractions, accommodation, local identity, and culinary experiences in these provinces.
Cooperation and Sustainability Emphasized
PM Srettha emphasized public-private cooperation to enhance the 55 provinces, focusing on transport infrastructure, new attractions, local business support, and tourism workforce training. The government also plans to improve safety standards, promote responsible tourism, and utilise digital media for publicity. Additionally, some provinces will be nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status to further boost their appeal. The identified regions include provinces from the North, Northeast, Central Region, East, and South.
