Golden Pin Design Award 2024 to host “Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon” in Bangkok

Golden Pin Design Award officially kicks off its “Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon ” tour in Asia this year after successfully holding events in Shanghai and Shenzhen in April. The next stop is Bangkok on May 16th. Organized by “Taiwan Design Research Institute”, the event will be held both on-site and live online, welcoming design enthusiasts and design professionals to attend.

Since 2015, the Golden Pin Design Award has hosted the “Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon ” annually, inviting creative designers from around the world to share their experiences and insights, explore new possibilities in design, and promote innovation and the development of the design industry and design culture.

The upcoming event in Bangkok marks the first collaboration with art4d, themed “Unlocking the Creative Potential: Developing Values, Ideas and Attitudes to Create New Design Directions for a Better World,” inviting professional designers from diverse backgrounds to explore innovative approaches to contemporary challenges, with the aim of creating meaningful change.

Award-winning designers sharing their experiences at the event include Chatpong Chuenrudeemol, a Thai architect who won the 2020 Silpathorn Award in Architecture. Chatpong’s standout project is “Bangkok Bastards,” a study of temporary structures made by locals that he sees as simple and flexible solutions to real-life problems. He often creates works within limited budgets and spatial conditions, such as his “Ang Sila Oyster Cage,” which won the 2023 Golden Pin Design Award. His unique design philosophy and experience will certainly complement his academic and practical knowledge in this project.

Another designer is Krit Putpim, founder of Dots Design Studio, who will be talking about product design, focusing on creative approaches that enhance functionality and aesthetics. Krit has created works for many famous Thai brands such as ARMA, galvanii, and Filobula. He is also interested in vehicle design, using his knowledge of materials and professional craftsmanship to create functional and aesthetically pleasing products, such as his wooden bicycle, which won the Red Dot award and Japan’s Good Design Award, as well as his “DOTS KAYAK” bamboo kayak, which won the Golden Pin Design Award last year.

Joining the lineup are two Taiwanese designers: Johnason Lo, founder of JL DESIGN, and Wei Chen, architect from Metahouse Architects & Associates. Known for his motion graphics, Johnason has been a major influence on Taiwan’s major award shows and has worked with global brands such as ASUS and Netflix. He will talk about integrating design into corporate and social contexts. Wei will share her experience transforming spaces, particularly her award-winning project of transforming a university recycling center into a vibrant learning space. The contributions of these two designers showcase the creativity and innovation unique to Taiwanese design, enriching the discussions and fostering cross-cultural exchanges at the event.

The “Design Perspectives x Golden Pin Salon ” event will be held in Bangkok on May 16, 2024 at 6:00 PM at AUA Language Center Ratchadamri. This event is free to attend.
