Thai Business Registrations Hit Record High, Japan Emerges as Leading Investor

Japan has emerged as a leading investor in Thailand. In the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Japan led with 86 investors and an investment of 16 billion baht, followed by China with 59 investors and 8 billion baht, and Hong Kong with 18 investors and 5 billion baht. Additionally, other countries contributed 88 investors with a total investment of 16 billion baht. The hot sectors attracting this investment include engineering services, auto parts and design services, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance services related to machinery and equipment, core software system services, and contract manufacturing services.

  1. New business registrations reached a record high of 87,596, expected to increase further in 2025.
  2. Foreign investment exceeded $6.76 billion, with Japan as the top investor.
  3. December 2024 saw 4,377 new company registrations, a 9.18% increase from December 2023.
  4. Overall in 2024, new company registrations increased by 2.69%, but total registered capital decreased by 49.20%.
  5. Top industries for new registrations were construction, real estate, and food services.
  6. Business closures also increased, with 23,679 companies dissolved in 2024.
  7. By the end of 2024, Thailand had 1.96 million registered companies with a total capital of $906.13 billion.
  8. 954 foreign companies were granted permission to do business, creating 5,040 jobs for Thai workers.
  9. The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) saw significant growth in foreign investment, with a 124% increase in the number of companies and a 46% increase in investment value compared to 2023.
