In the first quarter of 2025, Thailand’s SME confidence index rose significantly from 55.21 to 62.40, fueled by economic recovery, higher orders, and robust investment. This positive trend is anticipated to persist in the coming months. The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME D Bank) is gearing up to offer low-interest financial support to assist businesses during this period.

Key Takeways

  • Thailand’s SME confidence index rose to 62.40 in early 2025 due to economic recovery, increased orders, and investments. The uptrend is anticipated to persist, aided by SME D Bank’s low-interest financial support. High confidence was noted, especially in manufacturing and tourism, with micro-enterprises showing strong optimism.
  • Over half of SMEs reported earnings growth, supported by increased orders and production. However, concerns persist over rising raw material and energy costs affecting confidence. Despite these challenges, confidence is expected to reach 70.10, aided by government infrastructure investments, though operational costs remain a concern.
  • Positive investment sentiment continues with SMEs seeking financing mainly for working capital and expansion. SME D Bank proposes low-interest loans and various financial products to support SMEs in expansion and climate adaptation, aiming to reduce financial burdens and boost competitiveness within Thailand’s evolving economic environment.

According to Pichit Mitrawong, Managing Director of SME D Bank, an increased confidence level was particularly noted among SMEs in the manufacturing and tourism sectors. Micro-enterprises reported the highest confidence at 65.20, thanks to economic stimulus measures.

Across all regions, optimism levels were consistent. While 53.20% of SMEs experienced earnings growth, rising raw material costs and energy price volatility remain concerns. Looking forward, SME confidence is expected to climb to 70.10 due to continued consumption and government infrastructure investment. To support SMEs, SME D Bank is introducing loans at 3% fixed interest for the first three years with a 10-year repayment period. These include the “SME Power Loan,” “Beyond SME Loan,” and “SME Green Productivity Loan,” designed to support growth and climate adaptation.
