Inaugural Flight Boosts Thai Air Connectivity
On 4 November 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) celebrated the inaugural Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Chiang Mai. This launch reflects TAT’s Airline Focus strategy, enhancing Thailand’s air connectivity and high-season appeal. The collaboration with global carriers positions Thailand as a quality destination and a regional hub for aviation.
Cultural Welcome for New Route
Flight EY426’s arrival at Chiang Mai International Airport was marked by a water salute and cultural ceremonies. TAT Deputy Governor Mr. Chuwit Sirivajjakul and Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Mr. Weerapong Ritrod led the event, with TAT executives and local partners in attendance. Passengers received souvenirs as part of the warm welcome.
Expanding Tourism Opportunities
The new route enhances access to Northern Thailand, attracting travelers from the Middle East and long-haul visitors from Europe and the Americas. The Etihad Airways partnership offers four weekly flights and supports multi-destination itineraries. With over 679,924 visitors from the Middle East this year, Thailand anticipates over 850,000 arrivals, highlighting the region’s significance to its tourism strategy.
