The Writer's Place Announces 2027 Relocation of Woodlands Centre to Vista Point

Creative writing school will begin classes at its new Vista Point location on 5 January 2027, continuing its long-standing presence in the Woodlands community

SINGAPORE, Oct. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Writer’s Place will relocate its existing Woodlands centre to Vista Point in Woodlands, with classes at the new location set to begin on 5 January 2027.

The move marks the next phase for the Singapore creative writing school, which has served primary school students since its establishment in 2009.

Rather than opening an additional branch, the Vista Point location will replace the school’s existing Woodlands centre, allowing The Writer’s Place to continue serving families in the community from a new location.

Since its establishment, the school has worked with more than 5,000 students, with programmes focused specifically on English creative writing for children from Primary 1 to Primary 6.

Continuing a Long-Standing Presence in Woodlands

The relocation reflects The Writer’s Place’s continued focus on serving families in the Woodlands area while developing its creative writing programmes for primary school students.

The school’s curriculum combines creative writing, structured writing techniques and examination preparation, with the aim of helping students develop ideas, organise their writing and express themselves more effectively.

Its programmes are designed around challenges commonly encountered by young writers, including difficulty starting a composition, limited vocabulary, weak expression, misunderstanding a question and managing writing within examination conditions.

The Writer’s Place also provides both in-person and hybrid learning options, while senior teaching staff at each centre support consistency in lesson delivery and student support.

A Structured Approach to Creative Writing

The Writer’s Place uses several writing frameworks to help students approach composition more systematically.

Its Literary Expressions™ Method focuses on helping students communicate emotions and ideas through stronger language, while its Question Analysis Framework teaches students to identify the requirements of a composition question and ensure their writing remains relevant.

Guided writing is also incorporated into lessons, allowing students to work through the writing process with structured support before applying the techniques more independently.

Vocabulary, sentence structure and idea development are taught as part of the overall writing process rather than as standalone exercises.

The aim is to give students techniques that can be applied across different composition topics, rather than relying mainly on memorised model answers.

Supporting Students from Primary 1 to Primary 6

As students progress through primary school, the demands of composition writing become increasingly structured, particularly in the lead-up to the PSLE.

The Writer’s Place incorporates examination preparation into its curriculum while continuing to develop creative expression.

Students are taught to interpret composition questions, develop relevant ideas and apply vocabulary and writing techniques under examination conditions.

According to the school, each teacher undergoes more than 80 hours of training, with weekly lesson preparation overseen by its Curriculum Head and Principal. The teaching team also participates in quarterly development workshops.

The school has also seen examples of students improving their English performance over time, including students progressing by one Achievement Level band and cases of students moving from AL2 to AL1.

These are individual examples rather than standard outcomes for every student, with the school placing broader emphasis on developing stronger and more independent writing skills.

Keeping Writing Education Accessible

Alongside the relocation and continued development of its programmes, The Writer’s Place says accessibility remains an important part of the school’s underlying philosophy.

"Proverbs 3:27 has always been close to my heart: ‘Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.’ It was part of the conviction behind starting The Writer’s Place, that every child should have the opportunity to receive good teaching and discover what he or she is capable of."

"That is also why we have always tried to keep our fees accessible. We want children to benefit from quality writing education without good education becoming something that is only within reach of a few. When a child gains confidence, finds his or her voice and begins to realise, ‘I can do this,’ that is something worth investing in."
