Malaysia’s tourism sector is expected to thrive in 2025, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, driven by growth from Asia-Pacific, North America, and Europe, alongside ongoing promotional efforts.

Key View: We have a positive outlook for Malaysia’s tourism sector over 2025 as we expect tourist arrivals to build on the 2024 level and fully recover as they exceed the pre-pandemic level in 2019. Malaysia’s arrivals will further increase over the remainder of our medium-term (2025-2029) forecast period. Arrivals growth will be driven by key source markets in Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe and supported by the ongoing tourism promotion efforts.

Malaysia’s tourism sector is showing promising signs of recovery, with tourist arrivals projected to fully bounce back by 2025. The nation, known for its vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and diverse cuisine, is gradually regaining its popularity among both international and domestic travelers. Following the pandemic-induced downturn, the Malaysian government has implemented various strategies to revitalize tourism, including promotional campaigns and enhanced safety protocols.

In recent months, tourist arrivals have significantly increased, driven by easing travel restrictions and the resumption of international flights. Key markets, such as China, India, and neighboring Southeast Asian countries, are leading the recovery, contributing to a surge in visitors eager to experience Malaysia’s attractions. From the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur to the serene beaches of Langkawi, travellers are rediscovering the country’s unique offerings.

Moreover, the government is investing in infrastructure improvements and digital innovations to enhance the travel experience. With these efforts, Malaysia is on track to not only recover but also to transform its tourism industry into a more sustainable and resilient sector for the future.
