Over 37,000 people apply for help with informal debts totaling 1.5 billion baht from 19,061 creditors in Thailand.
A total of 37,579 individuals have applied for assistance from the state in the informal debt settlement program, claiming to have incurred about Bt1.5 billion in debt with 19,061 creditors. Suttipong Juljarern, the permanent secretary of the Interior Ministry, revealed this information on Sunday.
Provinces with Largest Number of Applications
The five provinces with the largest number of applications filed are Bangkok, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Samut Prakan. Bangkok had the highest number of applications, with 2,496 applicants and Bt131.8 million owed to 1,492 creditors.
How to Apply for Help
Suttipong urged informal debtors, who are yet to apply for help, to do so in person at their provincial hall or district office, including those in Bangkok, or online on the program’s website. They can also seek consultation by calling the Damrongtham Centre on 1567. He also assured that information provided to officials will be kept confidential and the protection of debtors is a priority.
