Thailand-China trade forecast at US$100 billion in 2015

Trade and investment between Thailand and China will reach US$100 billion in 2015, a sharp increase from US$69.7 billion last year, according to the Thai ambassador to Beijing.

Wiboon Kusakul said a vast country like China is an ideal market for Thailand’s trade and investment, while newly elected president Xi Jinping has announced his support for boosting international trade. Thailand’s investment in China is currently more than US$6 billion.

China might overtake Japan as Thailand’s biggest trading partner within three years, fuelled by Chinese investments in the Southeast Asian country, according to Srirat Rastapana, director general of international trade promotion at Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce.

Japan was Thailand’s biggest trading partner last year, with US$73.06 billion in trade. China was second at US$63.86 billion and the United States third at US$35.69 billion, according to official Thai data.
