## What are some of the challenges for startups in SEA?

The technology market within the SEA region is facing various challenges, one of
the main challenges that the startup market is facing is the drop in funding.

As recently [reported](https://www.thailand-business-news.com/startups/139580-fundraising-for-southeast-asian-startups-hit-a-five-year-low-in-q1-2024)
by Thailand Business News, equity funding in the region recorded one of the lowest
values in the last 5 years, reaching $1 billion and showing a 41% drop compared
to the same period in 2023.

Claudio Cossio, Co-Founder of Meta Pool added, ‘Fragmentation is a key challenge
for Fintech platforms in Asia and localization will be key to unlocking user engagement
through the form of local promotions, access to credit lines, and integrations with
established digital platforms such as WeChat and Kakao.’

Another problem that the technology market has had to overcome in recent years has
been maintaining the rapid growth level and income that it achieved during the pandemic
era, with rapidly falling demand, as a result of the changing consumer preferences
during the post-pandemic era.

To face this situation, many technology companies have had to choose massive layoffs
to keep a balance in the level of profit.

It can be concluded that the startup ecosystem has emerged as one of the most profitable
sectors in the SEA region and globally, yet it must address specific challenges
this year to sustain its profitability.
