Global technology leader Xiaomi today announced Redmi 5A that delivers on the company’s promise to provide innovation for everyone at prices accessible for Thai people who have not yet enjoyed the connected experience provided by smartphones.

Priced at 2,790 Thai baht, Redmi 5A is an effort made by Xiaomi in seeking to close the digital divide in Thai populations outside Bangkok, where in some areas smartphones have penetrated only slightly more than half the population.

Data from National Statistical Office of Thailand revealed that in 2016, 70.3% of Thailand smartphone user penetration is still concentrated in Bangkok.

John Chen, Regional Sales Director for SEA, Xiaomi said:

“Xiaomi commitment is to deliver innovation across all price ranges which allows us to bring access to technology to as many people as possible. With the Redmi 5A, we are confident that can contribute to the digital penetration across Thailand. It’s time to ensure that smartphone and technology are accessible to everyone as you can see our products are almost half the price of smartphone with similar specifications.”

The 5-inch Redmi 5A comes with a metallic matte finish and an array of high-quality features never seen before in this category, including a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 425 processor, a 13MP rear camera, a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion and a 3000mAh long-lasting battery. No smartphone in Thailand comes close to these specs at this price — in fact other smartphones with similar specs start from almost 5,000 Thai baht.

Registration for Redmi 5A starts today on the Lazada website and will be available exclusively on February 9 at noon for 2,790 Thai baht.

Redmi 5A is poised to make an attractive addition to choices for Thai users in Thailand and is expected to help contribute to smartphone penetration across Thailand.
