Thailand’s PM Paetongtarn Promises Immediate Economic Stimulus

Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is focused on promptly stimulating the economy. She aims to continue the policies of her predecessor, Srettha Thavisin, while also addressing challenges related to debt, SMEs, agriculture, and tourism.

BANGKOK – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra emphasized her commitment to stimulating Thailand’s economy immediately, aiming to continue the policies of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. Following Srettha’s removal for ethical violations, Paetongtarn held a cabinet meeting to prepare new policy proposals for parliament’s two-day session starting Thursday.

At her first press conference, she stated her administration would focus on issues like debt restructuring and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in agriculture and tourism. However, she remained vague regarding adjustments to the controversial digital wallet scheme, which proposed cash handouts to millions of Thais.
