Labour Minister Padermchai Sasomsap ordered the survey on the number of workers and wages nationwide to press ahead with the planned policy of raising the daily minimum wage to 300 baht and a 15,000-baht monthly minimum salary for university graduates holding a bachelor degree.
The survey will be conducted thoroughly to press ahead with the policy for a wage and salary hike after the government delivers its policy statement to the parliament on Aug 23-24.After that he will convene a meeting with concerned agencies including employers, workers and state agencies to talk openly about the necessity of increasing the minimum wage and obstacles facing entrepreneurs and how they want the government to help.
He affirmed that if there is any party that disagrees with the policy, their problems with it will be discussed reasonably.
The labour minister also said he postponed his plan to go to work on the first day to August 17 in the afternoon after the parliamentary session, as he is now drafting the government’s policy statement in preparation to deliver it to the government.

The government will deliver its policy statement to parliament on Aug 24, Ampon Kittiampon, secretary-general to the cabinet, said on Thursday.
Mr Ampon said the first cabinet meeting this morning discussed the framework of the government’s policy statement to the parliament.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had assigned Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit and Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittirat Na-Ranong to head the policy drafting team, he said.
The secretary-general of the Office of National Economic and Social Development Board would serve as secretary to the working panel, he said.
Mr Ampon said the team was directed to coordinate with ministry heads and submit the draft statement to the cabinet meeting for approval next Tuesday, Aug 16.
“The policy statement will be made on Aug 24, within 15 days of the royal command appointing Ms Yingluck as prime minister as required by the constitution,” he said.
