Over the past several years, the Economic Department of the French Embassy, the Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce and the French Foreign Trade Advisors – a.k.a “Conseillers du Commerce Extérieur (CCE), in French – have been working together in an excellent atmosphere.

Each institution may have its own rules and operating procedures but the ultimate objective remains similar: to facilitate cooperation between French and Thai businesses, to help French companies understand and penetrate the Thai market, to provide advice and assistance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as large corporations, both newcomers and well-established companies alike.

On October 7, this spirit of cooperation between our three organizations will be demonstrated again, with our jointly-organized seminar on the theme: “Business in Thailand: Looking Forward 2011”.  At this event to be opened by French Ambassador Gildas Le Lidec, the keynote speech will be delivered by Khun Atchaka Sibunruang, Secretary General of the Board of Investment (BOI).  It will be followed by a series of informative panel discussions on Thailand’s macro-economic situation, with the participation of Mr Hubert Testard, new Regional Head for Economic and Commercial Affairs in ASEAN and Mr Nandor von der Luehe, Chairman of Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand.

I will personally have the pleasure to moderate two round table discussions on “Trends in Staff Compensation and Benefits” and on “Key Infrastructure Projects: Business Opportunities for All”.

Our common objective is simple: during this period of budget preparation for many of us, we aim to give a global picture of the economic climate and to provide concrete tips to our French community at large, while facilitating the exchange of views and networking opportunities.

Working in unison can help each of us comprehend the situation better and seize more opportunities.  If, at the same time, our joint actions can help give each one a feeling of belonging to a dynamic business community while promoting the image of France in Thailand, then we all win.  Personally and collectively.
