MCOT’s Thai News Agency has selected and implemented Aspera’s leading mobile data transfer solution for Apple iOS and Google Android. MCOT Public Company Limited, formerly a state enterprise under the supervision of Office of the Prime Minister, was registered as a public limited company on 17 August 2004
Headquartered in Bangkok, Thai News Agency is owned by the MCOT Public Company Limited, which was originally the first television station on-air in Thailand in 1955, broadcasting news and entertainment programs to 89 percent of the population, 24 hours a day through 35 local network stations nationwide.

That included not only employing solutions to decrease the time necessary to send content for broadcast, but also to increase transfer reliability over multiple infrastructures such as Internet cafes, ADSL home Internet and 3G/EDGE mobile networks. After conclusion of a competitive proof of concept evaluation, Aspera was chosen and implemented in less than one month, just in time to be used to cover the historical Thailand national elections during the summer of 2011. With the new system, correspondents across Thailand were able to upload real-time events coverage using high-speed Aspera technology integrated into a Web portal, custom developed by Aspera partner Innova Systems, greatly increasing productivity as well as quality and volume of news content.
“Aspera’s flexible software architecture and straightforward APIs have made it possible for us to have the Web portal created exactly to our specifications,”
said Phairach Santhawe, news technology manager at Thai News Agency.
“The simplicity with which we were able to develop the system has allowed us to rapidly deploy Aspera Mobile-enabled devices to well over the initial target of 100 correspondents and staff. The results have been dramatic and exceeded our expectations.”
The Aspera Mobile platform is an innovative solution providing high-speed file transfer over mobile networks and has been adopted by forward-looking broadcasters and publishers across the globe to power next-generation mobile newsrooms, enabling them to deliver breaking news faster than ever before.
Field contributors simply use an Aspera-enabled mobile app to upload high-resolution images and video straight from their iOS or Android device, with maximum efficiency, ease of use and reliability. Time-to-air is significantly reduced as built-in fasp™ transport technology optimizes bandwidth efficiency and reliability.
“Following Aspera’s success in helping newsgathering organizations in North America and Europe, we are excited to see Aspera’s mobile technology assisting partners in Asia as well,”
said John Wastcoat, vice president at Aspera. “With broad operating support for iOS and Android, we are seeing strong demand throughout our Asia Pacific markets, including Thailand, South East Asia, Japan, Korea and Australia. Because news is such a core piece of our broadcasting partners’ business, where speed in distribution is essential, we are very pleased to be able to help them in such a critical way.”
