The hotel reservation rate in Bangkok has dwindled dramatically after the recent violent clashes between the government and the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship UDD on 10 April 2010. Thai Hotels Association THA President, Prakit Chinamourpong, admitted that the Bangkok hotel reservation is about 30% of the total available rooms only while the room occupancy in Khao Sarn Road is reported to stand at only 10%. Mr Prakit reasoned that tourists, especially foreign ones, have decided to cancel their reservations while some of them have returned to their motherland once they arrived in Thailand as a consequence of the domestic political bloodshed. The president added that the room reservation rates in many regions of the Kingdom have decreased, except for the southern part. The reservation rate in the northern region is only at 30-40%. As a result, Mr Prakit remarked that the tourism situation of the country for 2010 could not be evaluated right now since the demonstration of the anti-government UDD in Bangkok has not shown any signs to end.
