Thailand’s economy is expected to grow 3.4% in Q1 2025, the fastest in 10 quarters. Government plans include budget disbursement, private investment, infrastructure, exports, and tourism promotion to stimulate growth.

Thailand’s Deputy Finance Minister announced an expected economic growth of 3.4% in the first quarter of 2025, the highest rate in 10 quarters. This positive outlook reflects efforts to enhance the country’s economic trajectory and signals encouraging signs of recovery.

The Thai government, under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, has been actively collaborating with agencies like the Ministry of Finance, the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), and the Bank of Thailand to implement policies targeting a GDP growth range of 3-3.5% for 2025. These efforts include a two-phase approach: short-term initiatives like the “digital wallet” scheme—distributing funds to stimulate consumption—and long-term strategies such as infrastructure development (e.g., the Land Bridge project and rail linkages), export promotion, and tourism enhancement. The projected 3.4% growth for Q1 2025 suggests these measures are expected to gain traction early in the year.

The plans include short to medium-term objectives, such as accelerating government budget disbursements and promoting infrastructure projects. Additionally, long-term strategies focus on industrial reforms and enhancing agriculture to improve farmers’ living standards and ensure competitiveness in the global market.

Based on available information, Thailand’s government anticipates a GDP growth of 3.4% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, marking the strongest growth in 10 quarters. This forecast, announced by a deputy finance minister on March 5, 2025, reflects optimism driven by government stimulus measures aimed at boosting economic activity.

For context, Thailand’s GDP growth in Q4 2024 was reported at 3.2% year-on-year, below the expected 3.9%, indicating a gradual acceleration into 2025. The 3.4% projection for Q1 2025 is supported by anticipated increases in public spending, private consumption, tourism recovery (with targets of 39 million foreign visitors in 2025), and a modest export rebound, despite global uncertainties like potential U.S. trade policies under President Donald Trump.

While the forecast is promising, it hinges on factors like political stability, global economic conditions, and the effective execution of stimulus plans. Some analysts caution that structural challenges—such as uneven sectoral recovery and high household debt—could temper the outcome. Nonetheless, the government’s proactive stance appears to underpin this optimistic projection for early 2025.
