A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has struck Myanmar and the surrounding region. The iconic Ava Bridge in Mandalay has collapsed into the Irrawaddy River.

In Bangkok, numerous individuals stood outside their buildings after experiencing the tremors; however, no casualties have been reported yet.

An earthquake with a depth of 10 kilometers struck at 12:50 p.m. local time (1:20 p.m. in Thailand), as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was located 17 kilometers north of Myanmar’s second-largest city. According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the risk of a tsunami was low since the quake occurred on land. The USGS also recorded a 6.4-magnitude aftershock just 12 minutes after the initial tremor.

A partially constructed 30-story office building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district collapsed, resulting in at least three fatalities and trapping around 90 people. Videos circulating online captured construction workers frantically fleeing the scene. The incident occurred near Chatuchak Market, a popular outdoor bazaar frequented by foreign tourists.
