A total of 5,235 people lost their lives and 9,704 were injured in violent incidents which took place in the insurgency-plagued southern border provinces between Jan 1, 2004-Aug 31, 2013, according to a summary report by the Region 4 Internal Security Operation Command's forward headquarters.
