Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that the seven days of grand celebrations would take place from December 3 to 9 under the theme “Peace and Happiness under Royal Benevolence,” which reflects His Majesty’s role as the center of unity and the source of inspiration for the Thai people.
The celebrations focus on the joining of forces of the people as a tribute to His Majesty, who has contributed greatly to Thailand’s national development, bringing sustainable well-being to the people and the progress to the country. The Government will organize various celebration activities to offer felicitations to His Majesty the King on the occasion of his 7th cycle, or 84th, birthday anniversary.
The highlight of the celebrations takes place on December 5, the birthday of His Majesty the King. At 7:00 a.m., there will be a procession to bring sacred water from Wat Phra Chetuphon to the Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace, for the Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly, and the President of the Supreme Court to present to His Majesty the King at the grand public audience for His Majesty to receive felicitations.
The grand public audience will take place at 10:30 a.m. to afford the opportunity for members of the Royal Family, the royal entourage, the Privy Council, the Cabinet, the National Assembly, the diplomatic corps, government officials, and the general public to attend, about 18,000 in number. His Majesty has consented to the grand public audience to be granted from the balcony of the Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall.
In the afternoon, there will be processions bringing ceremonial offerings for His Majesty along the defined route, up to the ceremonial site. At 6:00 p.m., representatives of various agencies bring the offerings to the site. At about 7:00 p.m., the Prime Minister offers a ceremonial offering and leads tribute-paying in front of the royal portrait, before joining the singing of the Royal Anthem, leading the candle-lit function and the royal hymn in praise of His Majesty. This will be followed by a fireworks display and performances within the ceremonial site throughout the night, to be carried live on the Television Pool of Thailand and Radio Thailand from 6:00 p.m. onwards.
The Government will host a garden party in honor of His Majesty the King December 7 at Government House, where three special gifts will be presented to His Majesty, namely the miniature octagonal throne, the commemorative book of rare royal addresses, and the fund to contribute to the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under His Majesty the King’s patronage.
