BANGKOK, Oct. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of
State (International Development) on behalf of Canada’s bilateral development finance
institution, FinDev Canada, announces the signing of a USD 60 million loan to Muangthai
Capital (MTC), a leading non-bank financial institution (NBFI) in Thailand.

The parallel loan is in addition to the USD 200 million syndicated facility co-led
by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC),
a leading private Japanese global financial institution, bringing the total funding
raised to USD 260 million. The syndicate also includes commercial and state-owned
banks, as well as an asset management firm.

This transaction will seek to improve women’s access to finance and represents FinDev
Canada’s first direct loan to a Thai NBFI.

FinDev Canada will direct 100% of the loan proceeds toward MTC’s efforts to increase
access to formal financial services for underserved rural women-owned micro, small,
and medium-sized enterprises (WMSMEs), strengthening financial inclusion and economic
growth in Thailand.

MSMEs play a critical role in Thailand’s sustainable and inclusive growth, contributing
approximately [35% of its GDP](https://edge.prnewswire.com/c/link/?t=0&l=en&o=4799894-1&h=2644978924&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.oecd.org%2Fen%2Fpublications%2Ffinancing-smes-and-entrepreneurs-2026_075d8058-en%2Ffull-report%2Fthailand_a1b1b4e6.html&a=35%25+of+its+GDP)
and supporting significant employment opportunities. However, many enterprises face
constraints in accessing formal credit, including limited or no credit history and
insufficient collateral. As a result, MSMEs rely on informal lending, which significantly
limits their growth potential and sustainability. With 90% of its customers located
in rural areas, MTC is well-positioned to expand access to finance through its established
lending model and branch network.

FinDev Canada’s commitment strengthens Canada’s relationship with Thailand and supports
continued growth in investment, strengthening economic resilience in both countries.
Thailand is Canada’s second‑largest trading partner within the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations.

"FinDev Canada is committed to attracting more private sector capital into emerging
markets across Asia-Pacific. Through our strategic partnership with MTC, alongside
ADB and SMBC, we are increasing access to finance for underserved women-owned enterprises
in Thailand, supporting more inclusive economic development. This transaction strengthens
FinDev Canada’s financial sector capacity and Canada’s long-term economic engagement
in the region," said Lori Kerr, CEO, FinDev Canada.

"An investment in women is an investment in us all. Canada is empowering women entrepreneurs
by expanding access to financing for MSMEs and strengthening the resources needed
to succeed. By building financial bridges and breaking down barriers, Canada is
advancing a more inclusive economy where everyone has the opportunity to succeed,"
said the Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State (International Development).

"We are pleased to partner with FinDev Canada, alongside ADB and SMBC to expand
access to formal financing for women-owned MSMEs, particularly in rural communities
across Thailand. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to financial inclusion
and sustainable economic growth, while strengthening MTC’s ability to serve underserved
customers nationwide," said Mr. Parithad Patcharachai, Chief Executive Officer,
Muangthai Capital Public Company Limited.
