BEIJING, Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — About 4,600 years ago, ancient Dongyi people
built settlements, grew rice, fired pottery and brewed wine in what is now the Shanhaitian
Tourism Resort of Rizhao City in east China’s Shandong Province.

Nowadays, the site is becoming the Liangcheng archaeological site park, where the
Liangcheng site museum is under construction to showcase the culture of the ancient
Dongyi people who once lived there.

On October 24, a seminar was convened in Rizhao to discuss topics such as the construction
of the park. The seminar was attended by 11 scholars from the Chinese Academy of
Social Sciences, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, Shandong Jianzhu University
and Shandong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.

Within the Liangcheng archaeological site that covers nearly one million square
meters, a black pottery stemmed cup whose rim is merely 0.5 millimeters was previously
unearthed, looking as thin as eggshells and is reputed as one of the most exquisite
works on Earth about 4,000 years ago.

What is even more remarkable is the mixed ancient liquor, brewed from rice, honey
and wild grapes, detected in residues on the unearthed pottery shards.

This discovery provides the first direct chemical evidence of liquor production
and consumption during the Longshan period. It proves that liquor was already used
in feasts and sacrificial rituals as part of ceremonial culture about 4,000 years
ago.

Being a "safe" safeguarding precious cultural heritage, Liangcheng archaeological
site can also serve as a "decoder" reviving historical memories, a "cultural lounge"
enriching public life, and a "golden name card" driving regional development.

The planners therefore conceived building the Liangcheng site museum, crafting it
into an "archaeological theatre" where thematic exhibitions on related ancient state,
sacred land of archaeology and origin exploration are set to unlock the ancient
local history.

Empowered by technology, the museum will use scene reconstruction, immersive audio-
visual presentations and hands-on archaeological experiences to translate academic
concepts such as "fast-wheel pottery making" into vivid experiences accessible to
the public.

In the past, most visitors traveled to Rizhao for its coastal scenery, but in the
future, the museum will offer a brand-new cultural experience for them to understand
the marvelous ancient Chinese culture.

Once completed, it will serve as an enchanting venue for relic collection, archaeological
research and study tours to further boost Rizhao’s cultural tourism.
