Total Access Communication (Dtac) launched the 4G network quality testing at the terminal areas of Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport, to ensure non-disrupted data transmission particularly during New Year holiday.
Airports are a top priority for 4G rollouts for Dtac, the company said in a statement, as they are main transportation hubs with heavy mobile internet usage.
Dtac’s data showed that internet usage at Suvarnabhumi Airport expanded by 80 per cent in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year. The growth at Don Mueang Airport was more significant, at 317 per cent. Peak time is during 7pm and 8pm.
According to Airports of Thailand, in 2013, Suvarnabhumi Airport transported 50.9 million passengers and 287,997 flights, while Don Mueang Airport handled 15.56 million passengers and 135,976 flights.
Under its aim to be the leader in Internet service, Dtac has added 6,500 base stations for 3G and 4G services, covering Bangkok metropolitan areas and 30 major cities within March 31, 2015. It is also expanding its 4G to Chiang Mai and Phuket airports by the end of this year and other major airports, such as Hat Yai, Chiang Rai, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, and Koh Samui, by early next year.
