Thailand’s new Prime Minister had a vision: to welcome millions of Chinese tourists back to the country through a visa-free policy and enhanced security measures provided by Chinese police patrols at major tourist attractions.
Unfortunately, the initial vision has not been fully realized. It is projected that the number of Chinese arrivals in Thailand this year will only reach one-third of the pre-pandemic level. This disappointing start presents a significant challenge for Thailand, a Southeast Asian country that heavily depends on tourism income from Chinese visitors.
