The Transport Minister, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, stated that the arrivals are expected to include approximately 770,000 visitors from China, marking a 22.6% increase from the previous year. Suriya also highlighted the significance of maintaining service quality and safety for tourists, and announced plans to boost airport staff numbers during the Lunar New Year festival.
AOT expects a 10.4% rise in air traffic across six airports during Chinese New Year week, forecasting 4.03 million passengers—an average of 403,182 daily—and 2,460 flights per day, marking a 16.7% increase from last year.
AOT attributes the surge to the easing of travel restrictions and the growing demand for international and domestic flights. Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports are expected to handle the majority of the traffic, with additional measures in place to manage the increased volume efficiently. Enhanced staffing, extended operating hours, and streamlined immigration processes are being implemented to ensure smooth passenger flow during the festive period.
The minister emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and private sectors to ensure a smooth travel experience for the influx of tourists. He also mentioned that additional measures, such as increasing the frequency of public transport and streamlining immigration procedures, would be implemented to accommodate the surge in arrivals. Furthermore, Suriya expressed confidence that these efforts would not only enhance Thailand’s reputation as a tourist-friendly destination but also contribute significantly to the country’s economic recovery.
