The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced changes to alcohol regulations effective from 27 June 2025. These updates adjust the locations and times for alcohol sales and consumption to enhance public safety and responsible tourism. The aim is to align with current realities while promoting safe travel experiences.

Key Updates for Travellers

Alcohol sales in Thailand remain regulated, with general hours restricted to 11:00–14:00 and 17:00–24:00. However, exemptions now apply to certain venues, such as hotels, international airport terminals for outbound flights, and licensed entertainment venues. This broadens the previous 2015 regulations, which were limited to airport terminals and entertainment spots.

Railway and Traveller Guidance

Alcohol remains banned on trains and railway stations, with strict penalties for violations. Exceptions exist at Bangkok Railway Station during authorised events with safety measures in place. All travellers must adhere to local laws, avoiding alcohol in prohibited areas. Driving under the influence is severely penalised, with options like public transport recommended.
