# Thailand postpones tourist entry fee until 2026 amid declining arrivals

**Thailand delays the 300-baht tourist entry fee to mid-2026 due to low visitor 
numbers and economic challenges, while enhancing tourism services like digital entry
and promoting its attractions.**

Thailand has postponed the implementation of its long-discussed tourist entry fee,
citing sluggish visitor numbers and economic uncertainty. Initially scheduled for
2025, the 300-baht (€7.50) fee will** now be introduced around mid-2026**, according
to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The fee aims to fund tourism infrastructure
projects and travel insurance but has been delayed as demand drops and the economy
stagnates.

**Tourist arrivals have fallen 5% to about 17 million** so far this year, impacting
the country’s crucial tourism sector, which accounts for 20% of GDP. Factors such
as a strong baht, rising airfare costs, and economic issues in key markets like 
China are reducing demand.

At the same time, Thailand is enhancing its tourism infrastructure. Although the
fee may be temporarily suspended, the country is actively exploring ways to bolster
its vital tourism sector. Earlier this year, a new digital entry system was introduced,
which replaces cumbersome paperwork with a more efficient online pre-arrival registration
process.
