Thailand Tourism Awards 2021 honours 185 Thai tourism enterprises

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is proud to present 185 Thailand Tourism Awards that recognise contributions from Thai tourism enterprises that upgraded the quality, professionalism, and service standards of the Thai travel and tourism industry.

The 13th biannual Thailand Tourism Awards 2021 presentation ceremony, graciously presided over by Princess Ubolratana, was held on 11 October, 2021, under strict COVID-19 controls at the PM Studio, Bangkok and was broadcast live online via the Facebook fan pages of the Thailand Tourism Awards and Amazing Thailand.

H.E. Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, said, “This year’s Thailand Tourism Awards has incorporated the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) standard to reiterate the promotion of safe and sustainable travel in Thailand’s new normal post-COVID-19 era. This enhanced effort will help restore Thai and foreign travellers’ confidence, while elevating the positive image of Thailand as a ‘white tourism’ (clean, convenient, safe, fair, and environmentally friendly) destination.”

TAT initiated the biannual awards project in 1996, as it believes that the Awards signify quality and excellence in tourism and hospitality operations. The Award winners demonstrate readiness to support and strengthen Thailand’s tourism industry, so that it may compete globally for many years to come.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “The incorporation of the Amazing Thailand SHA standard criteria demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to the health, safety, and hygiene protocols that have over the year placed the kingdom among the best in the world for the ongoing COVID-19 recovery effort.

“Thus, this year’s Thailand Tourism Awards winners are not only judged on very specific criteria highlighting the very best of Thai culture, environmental protection, and contribution to civil society, but also on their effective health and hygiene standards, as Thailand continues to reopen for international travellers in the new normal.”

The 13th Thailand Tourism Awards 2021 attracted 346 entries with the 185 winners judged as meeting the five specific criteria: ‘white tourism’ (clean, convenient, safe, fair, and environmentally friendly), compliance with the BCG model, Amazing Thailand SHA standard, environmental responsibility, and voice of the customer.

The 185 awards winners are categorised in three categories; 83 attractions, 69 accommodation establishments, and 33 health and wellness tourism enterprises. Each category features Thailand Tourism Awards (Outstanding), Thailand Tourism Gold Awards (Excellence), and Hall of Fame Awards for entries that had received three consecutive Thailand Tourism Gold Awards.

This year, 10 Thai tourism enterprises received the Hall of Fame Awards: three in the attractions category – Chiang Mai Night Safari, Tiffany Show Pattaya, and Flying Hanuman (Phuket); one in the accommodation category – Siam Bayshore Resort Pattaya, and six in the health and wellness tourism category – Banyan Tree Spa, Banyan Tree Spa Samui, Fah Lanna Spa (Chiang Mai), RarinJinda Wellness Spa Resort (Chiang Mai), Oasis Turquoise Cove Spa (Phuket), and Oasis Spa Pattaya.

Bangkok, 2 December, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to report that Thailand features as the main location in the Japanese reality TV show ‘The Bachelor Japan Season 4’, of which the first episode aired on 25 November, 2021.

In cooperation with the TAT Tokyo Office, a film crew from Amazon Prime Japan and YD Creation Japan comprising 65 actors, production staff, technicians and others travelled to Thailand to shoot for the show in the spectacular Southern provinces of Phuket, Phang-Nga, and Krabi between April and June 2021.

A total of six out of the 10 60-minute episodes of ‘The Bachelor Japan Season 4’ were filmed in Thailand.

Aside from the valuable promotional exposure the destination will receive in Japan, a key source market for visitors from the Asian region, the foreign production also generated much-needed income and employment opportunities in the local tourism and film-related sectors of the three chosen locations.

Phuket, Phang-Nga’ and Krabi were among the first destinations in Thailand to reopen to tourism under the Sandbox programme, and the TAT Tokyo Office has capitalised on the interest of foreign filmmaking to promote the world-class tourist appeal and public health safety standards of these destinations.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said “Popular TV shows like ‘The Bachelor’ are an effective way to deliver promotional messages directly to international markets, in this case Japan, which is among the 63 countries and territories from which fully vaccinated visitors can enter Thailand through the Exemption from Quarantine (TEST & GO) programme. With Thailand featuring so significantly in ‘The Bachelor Japan Season 4’, this helps us to promote travel to Thailand now that entry rules are being relaxed and tourists are once again welcomed.”

Fully vaccinated visitors from every country around the world can also visit Thailand via the Living in the “Blue Zone” Sandbox destinations programme. Meanwhile, partially or unvaccinated visitors are also much welcomed via the Happy Quarantine programme. However, to prevent and control the spread of the new Omicron COVID-19 variant, Thailand currently imposes travel restrictions on arrivals from Africa.
