Macau draws more tourists as evidenced by a rise in visitor arrivals. The visitor arrivals to Macau have grown by 18% year-on-year to 2.55 million in July 2011. According to the Statistics and Census Service, same-day visitors accounted for 51.9% of total visitor arrivals.

There has been notable increase in the number of visitors from Hong Kong by 7.3% to 720,000, Taiwan by 4.1% to 126,000, South Korea by 23.6% to 35,000, and Malaysia by 16.4% to 21,000. The number of visitors from mainland China has also seen a significant increase by 27.9% year-on-year to 1.46 million. Visitors from the mainland are mostly from Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang, as reported in eTurbo News.
