The Thai government has approved an extension of the stay period for various categories
of visitors. This means that tourists, business travelers, and other visitors will
be able to stay in Thailand for a longer period of time without needing to leave
the country or apply for a visa extension.

## Key Takeaways

 * Digital nomads, students, and tourists from 93 countries will be able to stay
in Thailand for up to 60 days.
 * Nationals from 36 new countries will be allowed to apply for visas on arrival.
 * Digital nomad visas for self-employed, remote workers will be extended to five
years, with each stay limited to 180 days, from the current 60 days.

Starting in June, digital nomads, tourists, and students from 93 different nationalities
will be able to visit Thailand for 60 days. Additionally, nationals from 36 new
countries will be allowed to apply for visas on arrival.

The initiative carried out by the country has been to increase tourism in various
cities such as Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, and Chiang Mai, among others.

As part of the changes to boost tourism in the country, different measures will
be also taken to relax the stay requirements for students and people looking to
retire in the country.

Students will be able to stay one more year after graduating, and the medical insurance
requirements for tourists seeking to retire or settle in the country will be relaxed.

The current visa period for self-employed digital nomads will be extended from 60
days to 5 years under the new name of Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is available to skilled foreign talent,
digital nomads, freelancers, and those participating in activities such as learning
Muay Thai, cooking, sports training, medical treatment, seminars, and arts and music
events. Spouses and legal children under 20 of DTV holders are also eligible. Applicants
must show proof of financial support or a guarantee of at least 500,000 baht for
the duration of stay. The DTV allows a stay of up to 180 days with a visa fee of
10,000 baht, valid for 5 years.

The extension of the stay period is part of Thailand’s efforts to attract more visitors
and boost its tourism industry. It also reflects the government’s recognition of
the importance of foreign visitors to the country’s economy.

The particulars of the extension, such as the length of the extended stay and the
types of visitors who qualify, have yet to be fully disclosed. Nonetheless, this
initiative is anticipated to simplify the process for tourists and other visitors
to organize extended stays in Thailand.

Overall, the approval of the extension of the stay period for various categories
of visitors is likely to have a positive impact on Thailand’s tourism industry and
contribute to the country’s economic growth.
