Thailand has once again been recognised as a premier travel destination by Condé Nast Traveller’s readers, who voted Bangkok and Chiang Mai among the Top 25 Cities in the World in the prestigious magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2014.

This year’s awards, announced on 20 October, 2014, reflect the opinions of nearly 77,000 responses in the survey tabulated by Equation Research. Condé Nast Traveller’s readers also honoured Thailand in other categories including Asia’s top hotels and resorts.

For the Top Cities in the World, Condé Nast Traveller’s readers rated Bangkok in the 13th place.

With the Readers’ Rating of 81.840, the award announcement described

Bangkok resembles Blade Runner futuristic city

Bangkok as “resembles the type of futuristic city so often depicted in sci-fi films like Blade Runner or Minority Report – soaring, glass-panelled buildings house the world’s economic elite while at street level rickshaws and mopeds weave through snarls of traffic.”

Chiang Mai was voted in the 21st spot at the Readers’ Rating of 81.332. The award announcement named Chiang Mai as ‘the culinary capital of Thailand’ with ‘several excellent cooking schools and a popular market scene whose standout is the night bazaar on Chang Klan Road – the place to try Khao Soi, a steaming bowl of yellow curry noodles.”

In the Top 20 Resorts in Asia, Condé Nast Traveller’s readers rewarded six Thai properties, including two in the Top 10, which are the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle Chiang Rai at the 2nd and the Anantara Chiang Mai Resort and Spa at the 8th spot. The JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa Phuket ranked in the 12th position, followed by Rayavadee Krabi at the 15th and Pimalai Resort and Spa Phuket at the 17th while the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai making the list at the 20th place.

In the Top 25 Hotels in Asia, the Oriental Residence Bangkok was regarded as the 22nd best hotel in the region.
