Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha approved an extension of the state of emergency for another month. This is the eighth time that the state of emergency has been extended since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis in March.

The decree is deemed necessary by the government for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration to function. The state of emergency is thus extended until the 30th of November.

It gives Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha full authority to command the centre to combat the outbreak and allow compulsory quarantining of people arriving from abroad.

Thailand has only confirmed 3,759 coronavirus infections so far, with the most recent cases imported. There have been 59 deaths, one of the lowest casualties rate in the world.
