The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with environmental partners, has gained substantial results in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 4.27 million kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (Kg.CO2e)
for a one-year collective effort under “Care the Whale project: The climate action collaboration @Ratchada District Initiative”.
Moving forward for this second year, SET aims to develop Climate Care Calculator Digital Platform as an
effective tool of waste management from upstream to downstream for analysis and evaluation of waste disposal. To further expand to a wider public, in line with the Bio-Circular-Green Economy model, SET will organize the Climate Care Forum “Survive Climate Tipping Point” online virtual seminar on Wednesday, February17, 2021 to encourage all stakeholders to find lessons learned and solutions to conquer climate change.
SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai said that SET aims to create opportunities
of a balanced growth between business and social aspects to enable the capital
market to benefit all sectors, under vision ‘To make the capital market Work
for everyone’. SET has continuously collaborated with partners from public,
private, and social sectors to address environmental problems and create a
balanced ecosystem. The ‘Care the Whale’ project has therefore been created to
drive sustainable environment management, in compliance with the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Climate Action (Goal 13); Responsible
Consumption and Production (Goal 12); and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17).
During the first year, the ‘Care the Whale’ project has embraced over 30
business alliances and networks comprising 14 organizations on Ratchadapisek
Road, including social enterprises, business partners related to circular
economy as well as public agencies. Since its inception, the project could
reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 4,268,495.04 Kg.CO2e, equivalent to planting
a 10-year-old mature tree totalling 474,277 trees. Significantly, in the
implementation process, project members were active in waste management,
comprehensively separating wastes from upstream to downstream of the circular
economy process.
This year, ‘Care the Whale’ aims to extend engagement beyond Ratchadapisek Road
with cooperation from business and community sectors in Bangkok and other
provinces as well. SET also develops Climate Care Calculator Digital Platform as
a practical tool of full-cycle waste management and greenhouse gas emissions
reduction rate calculator, which will enable…
