The Prime Minister of Thailand is committed to driving the country forward as a regional economic hub, with various campaigns and initiatives to support this goal. The government is also focused on fiscal discipline and improving healthcare services.
Thailand as a Regional Economic Hub
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Srettha Thavisin has expressed his commitment to drive Thailand forward as a regional economic hub, despite global challenges. Speaking at the Bangkok Post Forum 2023, the Prime Minister outlined his hope to steer the country away from difficult times and embrace new challenges in becoming a regional economic powerhouse. To achieve this, his government has launched various campaigns such as employment promotion, financial support, and assistance programs for vulnerable populations, with the aim of narrowing the income gap by 2027.
Digital Wallet Campaign and Foreign Investments
Highlighting one of the government’s key campaigns, Srettha’s administration has launched the Digital Wallet campaign, which offers a 10,000 baht digital allowance for Thai citizens. This initiative seeks to establish a solid foundation for digital finance using blockchain technology. Additionally, the government plans to actively promote and facilitate foreign investments, particularly in high-skilled and high-tech industries. However, concerns have been raised about the government’s fiscal discipline due to the high budget requirements of these campaigns. The Prime Minister reassured that fiscal discipline is a priority, as it heavily influences foreign investors’ confidence in the country.
Apart from economic matters, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of healthcare. Thailand has been offering a universal healthcare program since 2002, and the government plans to further invest in improving health services. With considerable reserves and a positive credit rating from Moody’s, the Prime Minister is confident that Thailand’s economy will continue to grow robustly. He believes that Thailand’s abundance of resources and skilled workforce will contribute to the country’s success in all aspects. The government is determined to do everything necessary to ensure Thailand’s bright future.
